More Iphone 4 stuff

I woke up this morning and tried to make a phone call and could not I had a locked sim.  Spoke with Loretta at ATT and she was very helpful in fixing that.  She also told me that the closest tower to me on the ATT network was severely degraded and that it was quite possible that my service had been impacted by that tower. While there are 20 towers in our region, the iphone looks for the closest tower just like a computer looking for the closest wifi. Unfortunately my phones have been locking in on a damaged signal. I am not sure that was the problem with my iphone4 which seemed bad anyway, but it may explain why my 3GS was wonky yesterday.

I hope this was helpful

Apple will not take iphone 4 back.

So be warned that when you try and return your iphone 4 that the stores will not take them back directly. You need to setup a return through the apple store apparently, that is different somehow from the apple store you see in the mall. I dropped mine off at the Natick Collection and had my 3GS re-initialized at ATT store so I have a phone. Apple is now trying to do a return over the phone with me. They will need to cancel my iphone 4 upgrade and also cancel the two year contract I just signed with them. to be continued I’m sure…

Banking hours ?

Chris Brogan posted that he slept 10 hours strait today. Two things come to mind, make that three. The first is that he must be on vacation. The 2nd is that contrary to popular belief Chris is not super human but mortal like the rest of us. Now for the third, I have always believed that when you are younger ages 13- 30 and you sleep-in and get 10-12 hours of sleep (or more) you are simply banking hours. Hours that your body needs yes, but also hours that your body will use later for the greater good. When you become a parent that greater good is realized. You get up early, you do extraordinary things and you give back those banked hours. So sleep in when you can, get the rest you need because most of you will have children and you will rise to the occasion and give all those hours back. That is unless your name is Lance Armstrong then you’ll go and win the Tour De france 7 or so times.

What are you banking hours for?

How do you consolidate Twitter accounts?

As some of you know, (those who have seen me out and about at tweetups) I have started a new gig. Now the old gig isn’t gone Brilliant Video Productions Inc. still exists I just also work full time leading the Boston office of Corporate AV services. My dilemma now is what do I do with the @brilliant twitter name. I have like 3500 ppl following my brand there. I am seldom on that handle now however and I feel kind of bad because I probably will close it down. If you are following www.twitter.com/brilliantvideo please follow www.twitter.com/skipbensley instead. I wish it were easier to change names and accounts. I tried contacting twitter but have gotten nowhere with that. If anyone has ever been in my shoes and has blogged about it, or read about it could you let me know?

my thanks @SkipBensley on twitter.

What I have been up too

In late 2009, I wondered in a bad economy like that, what would I do in 2010? Then I started getting busy, then busier then crazy busy. Gary V calls it crushing it I think. I am now doubly employed and will soon need a staff or a good cloning. I recently joined the folks at Corporate audio visual services. (http://www.corporate-av.com) They are a NY based Company ( but the owner is from MA) however so no Yankee jokes. He ( Joe Guilderson) has been holding his own and then some in the NYC area since 1985, and hates the Yankees. His office is all about the Redsox and Fenway park. We have opened a Boston office in beautiful Medford square, and we will be providing Audio Visual Staging and support to the Boston and New England communities.

If you are planning an event and need AV equipment, rentals and or AV Tech support you can reach me at 617.245.0393 I also know a guy that does video production brilliantly. Hope your well

How social are you really?

So many people are on facebook and I think some just add you the same way you add followers on twitter. Why bother do we need another twitter? Isn’t that what buzz is for? I mean what is buzz really good for anyway?

I deleted some of the most followed people in the Boston area as a test to see if anyone would notice. Joel Foner noticed and asked to be re-added. Joel is a really smart guy and consultant out near me in Metrowest, MA. There seems to be lots of smart people out here. I am just saying.

Lisa Breeden Turulli also noticed. Lisa worked for a company I freelance with and left to take a better situation. Our Facebook friendship moved forward with her job change. She has even inquired about my
availability to shoot video for her new company, Thanks Lisa.

My point in doing what I did was to take stock in real relationships, ones that mean something more then a picture or 140 characters. I figured out that social media “fiends” are so busy being social they won’t notice if you delete them. I am not sure some of them even noticed when I re-added them recently.

If you noticed that I added you and thought hmm I thought I had already added Skip Before you did. I use Facebook to keep tabs on many friends going back 30 years. I also use it to “try” and get to know people better and develop better relationships that expand beyond 140 characters.

Do you use Facebook? How do you use it? Do the newer and more screwy security issues bother you or are you an open book? Do you interact with people on Facebook or do you just blast them with tweets and 4square messages?

Comcast does not care. They really don’t.

I have spent almost 3 hours today trying to get Comcast to fix my cable. They converted to digital and two days ago like many millions of people all my HD channels got filtered out. I had cable attached to all my TVs. The free video is now a whopping 50.00 a month.

It gets better however I can cancel my commercial grade internet package and get residential for 70.00 and my kids will still be able to see Nickelodeon and I will have internet also for work. At a time when I am desperately trying to save money this is a step in the wrong direction. I also surmise that Comcast has done this to millions of people and thusly have probably opened up a class action suit on themselves again.

Comcast is wanting you to have a 3D experience for the Masters but they don’t want people watching basic plug and play cable. For the 3D experience you need the glasses, the 3D ready HD TV and a full-blown HD account. Who can afford that these days?

It seems to me that Comcast has lost its way again, Lindsay in the Manchester NH office might care, but Comcast as a company does not seem too.

Wanted: Segment Sponsor for SXSW Interview

Do you want to be a sponsor of a Pete Cashmore interview at SXSW? Yes Pete Cashmore, he is rumored to be involved with that Mashable something. Do you want your products or goods peddled as commercials during this interview?

Of course you do. Why wouldn’t you?

This interview will take place at SXSW and will be with Jeff Cutler and Mike Langford aka NOMX3 as they delve about all things food and social media?

Did you know their videos get viewed on the following sites… ?

Ustream, YouTube, Blip.tv, Facebook, Twitter, Viddler, Seesmic and more

Did you know they currently get nearly 1000 site visits and 2500 page views per episode? .

Viewer demographics are still being compiled. ( that means lots of viewers watch too many to count in fact) Jeff and Mike are trying.

Do you have a 30 second spot you want dropped in? no problem. We can do this. Other sponsorship opportunities are also available at http://nomx3.com/sponsorship/.

Time is running out so don’t delay operators are standing by Now!!!!

How I use facebook

Facebook for me is a place for me to try and get to know people better. I only share pictures of my friends and family with people I trust enough to get to know better. If I have invited you it’s because I have known of you and met you IRL (in real life) and think we have enough in common to become better acquainted.

I have invited quite a few people to Facebook and had them go silent however. They are pictures on a wall, I call them “oil paintings”. It’s hard to talk and get to know an oil painting, I have spent time at the MFA talking to a Renoir that has gotten me absolutely nowhere.

Seriously however, In an era when we have so little or no time, I try and take the time to make connections that matter most. On Facebook, to me anyway its about making better acquaintances and better friendships.
